God and Football

So at the beginning of last night's Super Bowl there was a post on Facebook about Peyton Manning and him saying that he was committed to Jesus Christ.  I thought that was pretty cool IF he actually said it.  But I have no personal relationship with the man so I don't know what is in his heart nor if he actually said what was on the meme. I mean really, can you believe everything that is on the Internet?

Well, one woman on the post really was going off on how there's no way he is a Christian because he plays football.  WHAT?  God doesn't like football?  The Bible says you can't be a Christian if you play football?  I proceeded to ask her where the Bible says God hates football...I mean, I'd like to see that.

This lady proceeded to tell me I wasn't a Christian (without knowing and that God hates football and anyone that plays football isn't a Christian because they are selfish and not doing what God wants them to do.

So that got me thinking.  First, why would God hate football? Why would he care about football?  Does he care about football?  I don't think God cares a bit about football. But I am SURE he can use a football player to do HIS will.  I mean, he used prostitutes, liars, adulterers, even murderers to do HIS will, why couldn't he use a football player?

Second, she ascertained I'm not a Christian because I don't quote Bible verses in backing up that God doesn't hate football. Well, there aren't any Bible verses about football so I have nothing.  Nada. Zip. A lot of times people take the Bible and twist and turn it to what they believe.  They take things out of context.  This is a sinful world and I'm as big a sinner as the next person.  I know that. I've been Redeemed though by the Great Redeemer.

Third, she supposed that I obviously don't read my Bible and if I do I'm like the Pharisee's who don't believe.  Now this woman was really judgmental from the start...but here she is accusing ME of not being a Christian when she 1) knows nothing about me.  2) she isn't God so she can't know my (or anyone elses heart) and 3) again, she knows nothing about me.  The only thing she sees is a person commenting that she can't know Peyton Mannings heart and that not fair for her to judge him by her standards.

I tried, I really did. I tried to show her that only God knows the heart and it's His job to determine what is in others' hearts and that we, are called to love others as ourselves.  That's the second great commandment (she didn't like that one either).  After a few exchanges, I don't know what happened but all her posts were gone and either she blocked me or the page blocked her....regardless. There are people in this world who will judge us, they will try to persecute us because we don't fit into what they think Christianity is.  To be a Christian is to be LIKE CHRIST.  FROM CHRIST.  Period. Nothing less.

My desire is to be like Christ. To show others HIS love and to live a life that points others to HIM!  And for the record, I don't think God hates football....nor to I think he likes football...I really don't think he concerns himself with the game.  But he does concern himself with and love those who watch or play it because he loves US ALL!

Lifegiving Home Book and Well, LIFE

Over the last couple of months I've been a part of the launch team for Sally Clarkson's Lifegiving Home book which was released Feb 2, 2016.  What an amazing experience.  I was able to pre-order the book and thanks to Tyndale, obtain the Advanced Reader Copy to begin it early.

Let me tell you about the book. The book was written by Sally Clarkson and her oldest daughter Sarah Clarkson.  I had the privilege of meeting Sally back in September while at a leadership intensive for the Love God Greatly Ministry and it was a blessing to be taught by her for TWO WHOLE DAYS! To have lunch and dinner with her and her youngest daughter Joy and to just get to know her.  So when I saw that she needed members for her launch team, I admit, I JUMPED ON IT!

Reading through this book has made me want to be a better wife, mom, friend.  I want to create an atmosphere of love and warmth in my home. I want my family to know, without a shadow of a doubt they are loved. I want those who visit my home to know they too are loved and cherished.

I have to admit, being a working-outside-the-home mom has its ups and downs and adding to it a swim mom and well, my home isn't exactly "lifegiving"...we live there...but I want it to be cozy. I want it to be welcoming. I want it to be WARM...just not hot..I mean, I do live in South Carolina and in the summer it DOES get hot.

If you, like me, are a mom or wife, or will be someday, pick up Sally and Sarah's book.  It is life changing.  It is "Lifegiving"!
